 Flag Design Approved

It's been a long time coming, but it's now been approved by your board. Presenting the NEW Chesapeake GRC Flag.

A little history - Our original dog was redone in great detail by Marcia Schlehr. Marcia has for many years set the structural standard in her drawings for the Golden Retriever world.

We submitted our new design with this dog to Carolyn Molder at GRCA. Quite frankly, it was impossible to recreate as a flag due to the wonderful pen and ink detail that Marcia had included in her original drawing.

We submitted our new design with this dog to Carolyn Molder at GRCA. Quite frankly, it was impossible to recreate as a flag due to the wonderful pen and ink detail that Marcia had included in her original drawing.

We ran into the same problem when we started investigating an embroidered logo, the detail was impossible to recreate and keep the costs down.

CGRC suggested that the flag design be sent back to Marcia Schlehr, the original artist of the dog, to see if she could simplify the design as a flag. The newer design broke the dog down into essentially two colored panels. We felt it could be even further simplified and still maintain good structure.

Carolyn Molder, an artist in her own right, working along with another club member came up with the final dog you see above. A clean, clear representation of our breed, and an excellent compromise.

The overall design, shape, and scene of this new Logo, was created digitally by one of our club members. It has taken over 2 years of work by our board, members, Marcia Schlehr and Carolyn Molder of GRCA, to get where we are today. The board offers a hearty Thank You to all who were involved.

The club is now waiting on a final workup by the flag company and color swatches for us to choose our final colors. While we doubt it will be ready for our own specialty this year, I should be flying proudly at the National Specialty this fall in Gettysburg for all our fellow clubs to see.

2005 Awards Banquet

Jamie Campbell, daughter of Teresa and Ray Campbell, achieved one of the highest honors that the AKC can bestow upon a Junior Handler. Jamie was nationally ranked

  • #1 Junior Handler showing Golden Retrievers
  • #1 in the Sporting Group
  • #4 All Breed

Quite impressive for this young lady and member of our club. Needless to say, Mom and Dad are very proud!!
Chesapeake surprised our Junior Handler with a special award honoring her achievements. Need a good handler, we know where you can find one!

Kathy Landis, Founding and Recognition President, was one of the lucky winners of the table center pieces designed by Beverly Hochstedt Florist on Harford Rd (410-668-2995). They truly were unique since the colors were based on our own club colors. Janus Kurzmann went the extra mile and each was topped off with a lovely ceramic Golden Retriever figurine.
