Club of America.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS
MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS & EDUCATIONAL EVENTS - Each meeting
begins with an informative educational program aimed toward encouraging
responsible dog ownership, ethical breeding practices, or activities for
you and your Golden. This is also an opportunity to learn about current
CGRC, AKC and GRCA news and events, and to let your voice be heard regarding
your club's business.
CGRC, Inc. was formed for the enjoyment and education of all members
and other Golden Retriever owners. The primary benefits of becoming a member of
any Golden specialty club are realized from attending club meetings and
events, developing lasting friendships and sharing Golden knowledge.
Membership is more enjoyable and rewarding when you take an active part
in the planning, organization and management of the Club; when you participate
in various events and activities, and when you help manage club related
projects.
To the extent possible, meetings are held in locations where dogs are
welcome. Program topics may include demonstrations of obedience, tracking,
agility, and field work, presentations by health care experts such as local
Veterinarians and PennHIP research Veterinarians, video presentations on
correct conformation, structure & gait, demonstrations of search &
rescue trained dogs, presentations by local animal control and shelter
workers, Golden Retriever Rescue Groups, etc.
The Annual Meeting and Holiday Party is held in December; new
officers are elected and officially installed at this time. The Awards Banquet in March
includes a dinner where achievement awards are presented to members and their
dogs.
MATCHES & SHOWS - CGRC holds AKC sanctioned Breed and
Obedience (B/OB) matches, veteran and puppy sweepstakes, and Canine Good Citizen tests
(CGC). Club members are encouraged to actively support the shows, matches
and trials of other regional Golden Retriever Clubs.
TRAINING - CGRC encourages all members to train their dogs in obedience,
tracking, field, agility, etc.
Canine Good Citizen tests are held periodically to further promote the
importance of owning a well-mannered dog. The club itself does not offer
obedience lessons, but does urge its members to enroll in an obedience
training program. If you are interested in training your dog, check out these
local training facilities (courtesy of the PVGRC).
If a member is interested in training for field, tracking, or agility, or is interested
in conformation handling, assistance can be provided by directing them
to appropriate training resources within and outside the club.
NEWSLETTER: GOLDEN TALES - The Club publishes a bimonthly newsletter,
which is sent to all members two weeks prior to general membership meeting
dates. Its purpose is to keep members informed of club activities, events
and proposals, and to provide educational information. It also provides
a forum to share the accomplishments and achievements of all members. The
Editor depends on the membership to supply news items on subjects of general
interest as well as own personal accomplishments.
